Gothic Peak

So what have I been up to since Mt. Baker? Well, I immediately tweaked my knee playing frisbee, but the doc said nothing was sprained or torn, so I’ve been rock climbing a lot. Looking back, that’s probably not the best way to rest a knee either… but oh well.

The other week, I went to Mt. Si to see how it felt, and it was alright. I also learned that I was pretty outta shape…

Fast forward a week… I was supposed to head up Mt. Adams, but plans to bag the peak in one day made me hesitant. Thus, I joined a group of DCC’ers for a weekend at Gothic Basin. The last time I was here was four years ago, before I learned all this climbing stuff… I’m glad I came back!

We arrived at the basin around 11am on Saturday, and it was already blazing hot

We made camp, ate lunch, chatted, napped, and had a leisurely afternoon. Then around 5pm, we geared up and headed off towards Gothic Peak. Along the way, we got lovely views of Foggy Lake and Del Campo Peak

We gained about 1000-ft in elevation in a short amount of time and wound up at the base of Gothic Peak

There was one neat spot, where you could peak over a ledge, for a view looking SW. It was a steep drop from here…

The (class 3) scramble up to the summit was pretty short, but very fun! We all made short work of it!

Another view of Del Campo Peak and the Sultan River

After a snack, we down climbed, filtered some water from a pond, and arrived back at camp for dinner and sunsets
