Summit day

The team woke up at 2:00am for the summit push! I tried taking a handheld photo of the peak, but it turned out a bit shaky… The other camp’s headlamps didn’t help much either…

^note to self… design an ultralight mountaineering tripod

We began our long slog up the mountain. The weather was exceptional, so there were tons of climbers heading up. We passed a few teams from Skagit, and other private parties, but we got separated from the other two rope-teams we were with. We took a break after passing Colfax Peak to put our crampons on.

About a rope’s length above the previous photo… look at all that traffic!

At around 9000-ft, I was struggling, but we continued with the mandatory Type 1.5 fun

^also, that cast shadow!

A while later, the true summit came into view! what a relief!

^Grant Peak is the mound that covers the summit crater

Last year, I was on Shuksan, looking at Baker. This year was the opposite!

After taking a few photos, we got another group of climbers to grab our summit photo!!!

After this, we plunged stepped back down to camp. It was kind of crazy how long it took, and it was kind of neat seeing everything we had slogged through during the night

^this reminded me of Bighorn Sheep

Remnants of a cornice

This block of snow was over 5-ft tall. I wish I had penny for scale…

Look at how far that debris slid…

Annnnnnnnnd, that’s it for this year’s BoeAlps class!
