So I recently got back from two-week work trip to Europe. During the trip, Pae suggested going on a snowshoe outing when I came back. I thought it was a lovely idea.
Well, the work trip was a bit grueling. I had logged ~110+ hrs in 9 work days, with all of the time spent sitting and working in conference or hotel rooms… and I came back probably more stressed out than when I had left? I don’t know anymore… I was kind of a mess, and of course, jetlagged. Getting outdoors with good company, and away from all of the noise that is work, sounded splendid.
We ended up deciding try for Silver Peak from Annette Lake (via its West Slope). We got to the lake quickly, but it was clear that my fitness was lacking… I recall at that point, thinking that I’d rather head down, but I didn’t say anything.
From there, Pae absolutely rocked the West Slope. She kicked… probably 90% of the steps up? while I lagged behind…
^and these were the *best* steps ever. Look at that spacing! They really aided in my ascent of the slope.
We got to the ridge, and were greeted by some *not so friendly* snow and shards of ice flying into our faces and eyelids.
From here, we traversed below the frozen rocks near the ridge, and we eventually found a nice path to the summit! I was really glad that I didn’t push to head down from the lake earlier (again, a big thanks to Pae’s steps!).
Also, the views were *splendid*
^At least we got a solid summit selfie! 🙂
