The Enchantments

This past weekend, I ventured out to The Enchantments for the first time! A bunch of friends from DCC, and friends of DCC, had planned this a few weeks prior. The weekend couldn’t have gone any better!

You can read all about this hike on the wonderful WTA page here! My favorite part of the description was towards the end, when it gave this warning…

Be prepared… the descent from Snow Lakes to the trailhead can be even more painful than the climb up Aasgard Pass–the repeated percussion of walking steeply downhill while losing more than a mile of elevation takes its toll. Long before you reach the parking lot, you will be shuffling listlessly, every step a small victory of mind over matter.
^This is truth.

Anywho, I recommend going through the photos on something with a good screen. If you’re near your computer, cast this page and this song to it. Turn off your lights. You might as well turn on your fireplace while you’re at it.

The first destination is the lovely Colchuck Lake. One then ascends Aasgard Paas to access the Upper Enchantments

Colchuck Peak

Dragontail, Colchuck, and an island of larches in the pass

This guy nearly fell off a big boulder on the ascent…

^I’m glad he didn’t. It would’ve been really bad…

We made it over the pass! We had proceeded to eat snacks, and eventually ventured into the core of The Enchantments

The larch march continued…

Good stuff

Somewhere along that brutal descent…

We finished the 18-miles in just over 12 hours, got some fancy German hot dogs, and went home.
