Kootenay

The next day we visited the Banff Visitor Center to get snowshoe trail tips. They recommended Kootenay National Park, so grabbed lunch at Tim Horton’s, and headed out.

The drive to Kootenay was pretty spectacular. The car’s window tint did a number on the white balance, but I like how these two photos turned out!

Little did we know that Kootenay was in British Columbia.

We parked at the Marble Canyon parking lot, and left another car at the Paint Pots parking lot. We then met up with everyone at Marble Canyon and ventured off. I think this is Tokumm Creek… or the Vermilion River?

WI5 climbing in Marble Canyon! I really want go back to climb some of these waterfall ice routes…

The sun was always low in the sky, and this was one trippy scene. The mountain in the right was lit from the side, but the light got through the valley to light up a row of trees and that one section of the mountain on the left… Also note the forest fire damage and the new growth popping out of the snow.

The trail to the Paint Pots ran parallel to the Vermilion River. We were taking our sweet time, and we started running out of daylight…

We made the decision to skip the Paint Pots… as the sun was setting, and it was getting cold… The next day we returned to Lake Louise and milled around until we had to catch our flight.
