Cabane de Moiry

So after many hours of googling what was in the area, and even more time spent discussing what to do, we agreed on a new plan! I felt it was a solid “Plan B,” with huts, some climbing, glaciers, and all that jazz. The first part was to leave Chamonix and head to Switzerland!

We took a train to Gare de Sierre.

The views along the way were classic!

Mountain railways are the best railways.

From Sierre, we hopped on the Post Bus (yellow bus) to Vissoie-Grimentz-Moiry. We eventually got off the bus at the Moiry VS Glacier stop.

First off, check out Lac de Moiry… 🥰😍🥰

Looking at what we were headed to!

Not gonna lie, things were a bit awkward / there was some tension in the group, due to all the things that had happened so far…

Buuut, we did what most ppl do these days: Not talk about it, let it fester a bit, and soldiered on…

I thought the views from this ridge were amazing. The background reminded me of the hike to Cabane du Grand Mountet

Vibrant

We eventually got off the ridge, and onto some better trails!

It rained a bit, then it cleared up, and we were there!

Classic Swiss hut!

With a modern twist!!!

The dining room was epic.

The local beta!

I can’t look at a table without thinking of The Waterboy…

GEAR ROOM! it smelled SO BAD.

When we got in, we settled in, and chatted with a local hiker and his son for most of the afternoon. He was trying to hike across Switzerland, and this year, he wound up in this area.

Eventually, dinner was served, and it was delicious. We got seated next to a friendly Canadian couple, and afterwards, we met some students from Belgium who were planning to climb what we were going to climb. We chatted a bit about beta, and then started getting ready for bed.

Did I mention the view from the hut was pretty nice?

The sunset and the bathroom

The sunset and a cairn

When the sunset got wild!

Then it got dark, and the room we were staying in called lights out and went to bed. Apparently there was a lil’ kerfuffle in another room… where a French guide tried to start shit with the students, because the Belgians were being a bit rowdy? Moral of the story is:

  1. Respect quiet hours!
  2. Aggressive confrontation never works out well!
  3. Just be polite!
  4. Also, fold up your futon before you leave!

This is how you do it!

The next day, we climbed!
