On Friday, we took a train to Saint-Gervais for one of the climbing stages of the Tour de France. When we got to the station, we found out that we’d have to hike an hour or so, up to viewing area. Thus, we followed the crowds through the trails.
We knew we found the right place when we saw French cycling hooligans!
So apparently, an hour before the cyclists pass through, all of the sponsors will parade floats through the course, and throw free things to the crowds…
After a few hours of waiting, the leaders flew by us! I don’t understand how they climb at the rates and pace that they do…
The peloton came through much later… they flow like a school of fish. It’s amazing how they can bike 4-5 wide, through switchbacks, and not crash each time!
