Findings in Frankfurt:
The Christmas Markets are great!
The Japanese restaurant I found during my last trip (by the ECB) is still there. Also, it is owned by Chinese people.
A Chinese girl just came in asking where the Christmas Markets were. Also with her? her nervous wreck of a German date. She’s beginning to order, and is trying her best to explain what she’s ordering to him. He says he’s not hungry.
LAAAAAAAAAAAME.
Later, she starts a conversation with the waitress (in Chinese), and asks for specific directions to the markets. Having just been there, I chime in with directions. Turns out she’s from Xiamen, and the waitress is from Fuzhou. They both (instantly) guessed that I’m from Taiwan.
So now we’re chatting about stuff… The waitress came to Germany on a basketball scholarship, and works part time. The other girl is also here for schooling. The boss then offers to let the waitress off of work early, so “she can could tag along with us to the market.”
Whoops! We completely forgot about the dude!
Sorry bro…
Findings @ Work:
The airline’s engineer told me that he was in my country last week. He was referring to Texas. He just won a bunch of brownie points.
These folks LOVE their American pop music. I don’t think I’ve heard anything other than Bruno Mars, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift.
Additionally, the engineers here are very smart, as I’m getting made fun of for using a graphing calculator. I’ll let them have this win…
These folks will also consume much more than you. I’m on my second plate at this German/Chinese Mongolian Grill/Bowling Alley/Bed & Breakfast. They are on their 4th. I cannot fathom how these places stay profitable. The employees here speak Chinese though.
+1 for the communication win.
Findings in Wetzlar:
The locals don’t know [much] about Leica. However, one guy (correctly) guessed if it was that “very expensive camera, which only shoots black and white.”
