Tokyo

So on the third day, I woke up to another wonderful sunrise!

I love the density of this place…

Then I did some more shopping / browsing in the AM. I visited the Yodabashi Camera block near the west exist of the station, checked out all the latest gear, gunpla, scale plastic models, tried on some fancy headphones, found a bunch of Huawei phones and got to play with those (they make some seriously nice gear), and basically got my fix of all the latest gadgets… Then I went back to Kappabashi to pick-up some things I forgot the first time I was there.

I wandered around and decided to try to visit some of the Michelin star ramen shops for a late lunch. I went to both, but they both had ridiculous lines, so I ended up at a really nice tempura shop instead. Everything was fresh and delicious (like they killed the tiger prawns in front of you). I went back to Shinjuku and browsed around Takashimaya and Isetan.

I also came across a Shake Shack?! so I got a burger and a black sesame shake… I have actually been by the Seattle branch twice, and both times, they had lines wrapped around the block. There was no line in Tokyo 😛 The burger was OK.

High school me had a moment…

The next day, I woke up pretty early, and decided to go on a walk, so I went to Harajuku to mosey around Yoyogi Park and Meiji Shrine.

The place was pretty empty, and under some remodeling, to get ready for the 2020 Olympics

I’m always a fan of the construction of these places…

Then I got hungry, so I hopped on a train, to go to Tsukiji fish market. I had been a few times before, and was always able to get a solid meal

I get to there, and it seem alright…

But no, it was insane. I guess when they moved the actual fish market to the new spot, the old spot got immensely more popular? I don’t know… Anyways, I tried venturing in, but I just wound up in a sea of people, and it took forever to get out of it… There was much regret.

Even the children were concerned with the amount of people there…

I managed to escaped and walked to Ginza for some tonkatsu instead, and then to Tokyo station. I found a nice little urban park along the way that was a nice spot to get away from the hustle and bustle of everything.

I went to Tokyo Station, because there is a Studio Ghibli store inside. It too, was ridiculously packed with people (but it usually is). I got my gifts, ate a bowl of ramen, and quickly left .

This was seriously good.

Japanese graphic designers are the best.

On my last night, I met up with Aaron-san and Ami-san!

I learned how to played medal games… and what I mean, is we just poured coins into the machine and hoped for the best.

And UFO games… then got dinner at a hot pot spot, and dessert at Dennys!

So this Dragon Ball Z UFO game… the figure you are trying to win is hanging from those blue and red handles. Then, the handles are perched on those pink sticks. The pink stuff is silicone, so it creates a really good seal with the red and blue handles. The goal is the move the crane, and when it drops, hope that it pulls or twists the handle enough, so that the prize falls.

We were watching these two people play, and they got SUPER close to winning, but ran out of money. Then, I jumped in, and won the figure after spending 300JPY 😛

It was my first ever win!!! Each time I go to Tokyo, Aaron and I always play one UFO game until we get the prize, and he had won all previous prizes, so I was pretty happy with everything 😉
