Paternkofel

The final day! We decided on a rest day, and the plan was to via ferrata up to Paternkofel.

The sunrise over the valley was pretty epic!

We slept in a bit, had a huge breakfast, drank our cappuccinos, packed the car, and headed out.

It was kind of a lazy, hazy, and humid day. The cows were lazy too.

We eventually got to the base of Tre Cime.

And kept going towards Rifugio Locatelli.

A donkey!

The views and weather got better.

And then the weather turned.

We stopped for a bit to put on our harnesses, and to tie into the via ferrata kits. Weather on the other side was a bit nicer…

And then a cloud rolled in. Check out this family on their vacation!

The kids were crushin’ it.

We got in line, and made our way up.

Views all day.

At the top!

We had to do our usual “run from the storm clouds” descent…

We made it to clearer skies!

And had a lil photoshoot with some folks from Spain.

…as more rain clouds moved in.

Stephen was slowin’ us down. Keith decided to put an end to that.

Right after we took this photo, it started to rain. We put on our shells and jogged down. We eventually made it back to the hut, where we had celebratory Pringles and beers. Then we started our drive back to Venice!

During the trip, we had learned that Keith had never been to Venice… since we had a night there, we drove into town. Looking back, I wouldn’t recommend Venice at 10pm at night, when it’s raining buckets.
